Located in the Heart of Oklahoma, Purcell’s history dates back
to 1887 when the town became an important commercial center with the arrival of the
Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. Anchored by its landmark antique shops,
Purcell’s downtown business district serves as both a source of pride for local
residents and destination for many tour groups. From numerous retail shops, a renovated
pre-statehood hotel, and a remodeled historic theater filled with antique shops, to a
downtown park which includes a genuine Santa Fe caboose, you'll find everything from greeting cards to
electronic equipment. The McClain County Museum contains 11 rooms of
artifacts, furniture and other items relating to area history. Ranch tours of the many
state-of-the-art breeding and training facilities make for a wonderful day trip, along
with the many great antique, specialty stores, and restaurants that Main Street has just
up the hill from the Train Depot. The Purcell City Lake area also offers visitors an
18-hole golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, fishing, and picnicking opportunities.
